Cosmetic & Therapeutic Injectables

Neuromodulator injectables are an injectable treatment that is administered to specific points in the face to temporarily relax your muscles. These injections can be used as both therapeutic and cosmetic treatments. We offer therapeutic neuromodulator injections to treat TMJ disorder, including clenching and grinding, as well as cosmetic treatments for facial rejuvenation.

At Bridgeland Dental Care, we are pleased to offer therapeutic neuromodulator injections to all Calgarians. Book your appointment to discuss treatment with us today.

Why See a Dentist for Botox®?

Dentists have extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, including a deep understanding of how these muscles interact. This training provides a strong foundation for using therapeutic neuromodulator injections to treat TMJ disorder, as well as applying Botox® for cosmetic purposes.

Dr. Akbarihamed is skilled at providing Botox® for both therapeutic and cosmetic applications. Whether you are struggling with TMJ disorder, clenching or grinding, or simply interested in discussing Botox for cosmetics, we’re here to provide you with all the information necessary to make an informed decision about your care.

What Is TMJ Disorder?

TMJ refers to your temporomandibular joint. This is your jaw joint, which functions like a hinge for your mouth, letting you eat and talk freely. TMJ disorder, or TMD, occurs when you have a problem with how this joint and the surrounding muscles are working.

Causes of TMD include stress, injury, genetics, bite misalignment, or diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. If you have TMD, you may experience sore cheeks and jaw muscles, teeth clenching or grinding, tension headaches, and neck and shoulder pain.

How Can Neuromodulators Treat TMD?

Therapeutic neuromodulator injections relax muscles. The targeted application of injections helps to target the tight muscles in patients with TMJ disorder and release tension.

It’s typically recommended as a complementary treatment to other TMD therapies, but it may be all you need for certain symptoms!

We also provide custom nightguards or splints for those experiencing bruxism (teeth clenching and grinding). These protect your teeth from wear and hold your jaw in a more relaxed position while you sleep.

Cosmetic Applications for Botox®

Botox® brings a vivid difference in the appearance of moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles, those wrinkles you can’t avoid when you make certain facial expressions. Injections are administered to temporarily relax your muscles and create a younger, smoother look.

Dentists can provide Botox® injections for cosmetic purposes in addition to therapeutic Botox®, or as their own treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Injectables

Cosmetic injectables have been on the consumer market with full FDA and Health Canada approval for over 10 years and have been extensively researched in over 2,400 medical studies. Botox® is considered completely safe if administered correctly by a trained professional.

Cosmetic injectables do not come with many side effects, and if you do experience any symptoms, they will likely be mild. Potential side effects of cosmetic injectables include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Allergic reactions
  • Inflammation
  • Discomfort
  • Dizziness

If your headaches are caused by TMJ disorder, then treatment through therapeutic neuromodulator injections or nightguards can help to relieve the tension causing you pain.

Taking a
Preventive Approach

Routine dental cleanings and exams are a vital part of preventive care for your teeth and gums. Our team at Bridgeland Dental Care is dedicated to providing our patients with personalized, comprehensive, preventative dental care.

During a dental cleaning, your dentist or dental hygienist will remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar build-up from your teeth. Your dentist or hygienist may also recommend other preventive services to help protect and strengthen your teeth from decay.

We also use digital X-rays and the iTero digital scanner to get a clear view of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. These tools help make your dental experience more efficient, comfortable, and interactive.
