Dental checkups include an exam and a cleaning, often performed on a routine basis. We’ll tailor a specific schedule based on your needs after your first exam, but typically, we recommend scheduling an appointment every 3–6 months.

What to Expect During a Dental Exam
Our dental exams are performed by Dr. Leila Akbarihamed and include a comprehensive assessment of your oral health. From checking your teeth and gums for signs of dental conditions to oral cancer screenings, your dental exam goes beyond checking for cavities.
Your dental exam may include digital X-rays, intraoral scanners, and the iTero digital scanner, which allow you to see exactly what we see.
If Dr. Akbarihamed or your hygienist notices anything concerning during your visit, they’ll discuss their findings and treatment options with you in detail. Trust and transparency are essential to everything we do, and we want you to make informed decisions about your dental care.
What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning
Every cleaning is personalized to you, from the recommended frequency to the procedures performed. We offer blankets, neck pillows, and more to help you feel at ease during your cleaning. Your hygienist will scale and polish your teeth to remove buildup and give you that fresh, clean feeling.
To help you maintain that feeling long after your visit, you’ll receive your own custom smile kit filled with tools and tips to keep your smile healthy and bright.
We also provide preventive treatments that we’ll recommend based on your needs. These include dental sealants to protect teeth with deep grooves and crevices or fluoride treatments to help strengthen enamel and reduce your risk of cavities.
Our Technology-Powered Care
Our dental clinic uses modern dental technology to get an in-depth look at your oral health. It also allows us to show you exactly what we see, which makes it easier to explain our findings.
We use the iTero digital scanner to capture a 3D image of your teeth and gums in minutes. The wand-style scanner moves around your mouth to create a high-resolution digital model without the need for goopy impressions. It allows us to track changes over time, plan treatments, and even simulate your future smile after Invisalign® or restorative treatments like crowns, bridges, or implants.
We believe patient education is vital for long-term dental health. To help you better understand diagnoses, we use an intraoral camera, a small pen-sized device, to take up-close images of your teeth, gums, and any areas of concern.
Finally, we integrate digital X-rays into our practice, which uses up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays. Digital X-rays also provide instant, high-definition images that can be viewed on a computer screen. We’re happy to show you your X-rays and discuss our findings with you during your exam.
Laser Cold Sore Treatment
Laser treatment can be an effective option to heal cold sores. If you already have a cold sore, laser treatment can speed healing and greatly reduce the pain and discomfort it causes. Repeated laser therapy can even prevent cold sores from returning to the same area.
Cold sores are most effectively treated before they develop a crust, so as soon as the sore begins to feel tingly or itchy, book an appointment for treatment. Laser treatment may prevent the cold sore from breaking out altogether or recurring in the future.
